Bread & Butter Pudding
Bread and Butter Pudding is a traditional South African dessert. Served hot with with golden syrup, jam or honey and a good dollop of fresh cream! Enjoy.
Ingredients:
- 4 x thick slices of white bread with crusts (slightly stale is good)
- Butter
- 190 ml currents or 150 ml raisins
- 2 large eggs
- 125 ml sugar
- 1 ml salt
- 700 ml milk
Method:
- Thickly butter sliced bread
- Place slices with the buttered side down in a greased dish
- Sprinkle the raisins on top.
- Beat eggs thoroughly and add sugar, salt and milk.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread and allow it to soak for about 30 minutes.
- Bake covered for 30 minutes at 160 degrees celcius.
- Remove the cover and bake for a further 10 - 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve hot.
